for everyone

The VoiceMaster  Pocholo Gonzales The VoiceMaster     "Discover the Art of Voice Acting and the secrets of professional voice artist and dubbers ... ...Use the talent you already possess to begin your Voice Over career in less time and save thousands of pesos. From the desk of The VoiceMaster March 3, 2010 Dear Aspiring Voice Artists,, My name is Pocholo "The VoiceMaster" Gonzales, and I've got ONE question to ask that could change your life forever... Are YOU constantly hearing commercials that you know YOU could have voiced better? Commercials that would sound better if YOUR voice was used on them? I'll bet you hear them every day -- but do nothing but complain. Too many of us just accept things the way they are because 'it was done by a professional voice over guy or gal.' Stop settling for something YOU know you can do better! If that's the way you feel... then you'll be very excited to hear about the incredible opportunity I'm about to share with you... I am living proof that the average person can overcome all the "odds" and become a successful VOICE OVER artist with the right training. I was right where you are... but I did something about it, and have been a successful Voice Over artist for almost fifteen years. I'm proud of my accomplishments -- but I'm not telling you this to brag.   I'm telling you this because one of the most dangerous things you can do if you want to become a VOICE OVER artist is to put your faith in someone who has a decent voice and good intentions... ... but has NO REAL CLUE about the TRUE insider techniques that make VOICE OVER artist like me SUCCESSFUL and IN-DEMAND. Unlike other so-called "gurus" who actually know next to nothing about training VOICE OVER talent... ... I've been doing voice over training for more than 10 years... and I can train you! Pocholo Gonzales is a true professional! "It’s really a very good day today here at the UP Film Institute. The previous speaker was so good. Everyone was amazed of his voice acting. The speaker also made a lot of radio and TV commercials wherein he is the dubbing. He’s working in Creative Voices Productioins. He’s Pocholo Gonzales. There was a volunteer from Lyceum who tried out voice acting and I must say— Ang galling niya!" Alvin Marcelo - Y4IT UP Diliman 2008   Ever since radio stations began running commercials, people have been complaining about them. They are too long, there are too many of them. But what I hear the most is... people saying that they could have done a better job voicing the commercial. They say the person voicing it sounds crummy or squeaky or is putting the inflection on the wrong word or phrase. That it should have been 'this' or it should have been 'that'. But, they never do anything about it... except complain!  Their friends tell them they have a good voice -- that they should be doing commercials. That's a great idea... but how do you get into the industry? It use to be quite time consuming and expensive. You need a commercial audition reel. For that, you need some commercial copy (what the voice over person is reading) and access to a recording studio. Getting your hands on some commercial copy can be a bit of work -- but usually inexpensive or even free. Studio time is a whole different story -- it can run to several thousand of pesos per hour. And, if you are just starting out, it may take quite a few hours to get an fully produced commercial audition reel. Along with commercials, there are many other things that need voicing -- corporate and industrial presentations, narrations, audio for websites -- just to mention a few. As long as there are products to voice -- there will be a need for good, skilled voice over artists. So, where do they come from? Who trains them? How do they acquire that skills necessary to get hired for voice over work? That's where our voice acting and dubbing training comes in...   I used to be in the exact same place you are right now. I was the biggest complainer of all -- and always talking about how I could do a better job voicing the commercial than 'the guy on the radio'. My friends told me that I had a pretty good voice and should think voicing commercials. So I did! Now, I'm a successful voice over artist with literally thousands of radio and television commercials to my credit. I have also done animation voices, character voices, corporate and industrial voice overs, narrations and audio for websites. But it wasn't easy and took a long time because there weren't many people who were offering any voice acting training. I was lucky to be working at ABS CBN Channel 2 as a dubber and DZMM and DZRH where I could access radio drama and radio ads and spend time in the recording booth. I put together a very crude commercial audition reel and took it to the few recording studios I could find in the local phone book. I did a number of commercial 'sessions' for free, just to get the experience and a better audition reel. I wondered if I was ever going to be a 'real' voice over artist or just a wanna-be. I'll never forget my first paying session. It was an Coke Commercial where I did the voice of a kid. It's only one line. It wasn't as glamorous as I had expected -- but the cheque cleared at the bank... and that was all that mattered. I was on my way... as a professional voice over artist. "With the right voice acting training, almost anyone can become a voice over artist... ...with virtually NO upfront investment!"   I wish that during my early years, I had known the tips & techniques that are available to you today. Instead, I had to learn these techniques through costly "trial and error", often wasting countless hours on something that turned out be of no value or cost me a lucrative voice session. But YOU don't have to make any of those mistakes -- you get the benefit of our experience! Imagine standing at a microphone in your own home studio doing a voice over for someone who came to you for your services! How cool is that? So, why am I doing this? I'm SICK of seeing good, honest people being taken advantage of by so-called "special" techniques that aren't really special at all. My voice over training has been proven successful over 15-years. My voice over training offers so much more than just learning to read with a professional sounding voice. You will also learn... to interprete the copy.effective pacing and pausing. proper inflection.enunciation and articulation.reading faster but still legible.vocal and facial exercises to keep your muscles limber.tricks to get those facial muscles to work when they don't want to.and, various microphone techniques that will dramatically change the way you sound. " A voice over is any recording or performance by one or more unseen voices for the purpose of communicating a message" – James Alburger. Any message you hear without seeing the performer is considered to be voice-over. This means voice-over is all around us! Whether you are listening to the radio, watching movies or television, dining at your fast food restaurant or riding the rail transit, voice-overs can be heard! Is doing Voice-overs hard? Voice-overs can actually be done by anyone! And it's a very rewarding job indeed. A lot of Voice Talents are being paid to play and many professional voice-overs get their kick out of the industry just by enjoying what they do. Anybody can do a voice-over, but not everybody can do voice acting. So what is Voice Acting? Voice acting is an art. And like all other art forms it has tools and techniques which must be mastered in order for you to succeed in the level of success you want to deserve. Its about finding the kid in you. It requires dedication and passion for doing Voice-over jobs, and lots of patience to master the skills. True, not everyone can do voice acting, but anybody can benefit from learning how it works. In fact, many of the students in Creativoices Clinic don't pursue voice-over jobs, but need the voice acting skills to further themselves in their chosen field. How do I benefit from Voice Acting lessons? If you want to break into the world of voice-overs, then voice acting is a must for you. By knowing how to express yourself properly, you can create real and believable characters for commercials, narrations, radio drama and most especially animation. With voice acting you can liven up a conversation and get the attention you want, whether its on a business or a personal level. If you or your job requires you to: 1. Communicate with other people on the same or higher business level. 2. Prepare Scripts, Write-ups or Citations for Productions 3. Talk to customers or clients and close business deals fast and efficient. 4. Constantly talk to other people and associates by way of declamation, speech or impromptu performance. 5. Or maybe you love to sing, host or perform for an audience. 6. Express yourself in a creative and entertaining manner. Who can do Voice-Acting? Anyone who needs to talk can communicate better when he/she uses voice acting techniques. Which means that even salespersons, promodizers, carpenters, engineers, attorneys, teachers, draftsmen, doctors, nurses, utility personnel, front desk officers, etc.. can learn voice acting, and benefit from expressing or communicating properly and creatively, with their peers. What about Creativoices Clinic? Creativoices Clinic is one of the departments of Creativoices Productions – the premier voice over solutions provider in the country. And it is now offering the Creative Voice Acting Workshop, the only one of its kind in the Philippines today. There are many voice acting schools abroad and many Voice talents offering "experience" based teaching, but none offers a detailed and thorough application and training by book and modules like Creativoices Clinic. What do I expect from the training? In Creative Voice Acting Workshop, you'll get: 1. Personalized, one on one voice coaching and training throughout the workshop - from real and credible Voice Acting Professionals 2. Information you need to know to become a successful voice actor and communicator. 3. Create real and believable characters from within you and learn how to bring them back when needed. 4. Instructors NEIL ERICSON “Papa” TOLENTINO After more than a decade of professional work in the voice-acting and dubbing industry, it would be an understatement to say that Mr. Neil Ericson M. Tolentino has done it all. As a dubbing supervisor and director, Mr. Tolentino, or Papa Neil as fondly called by his peers, is behind some of the most popular Asianovelas like Lovers in Paris , Princess Lulu and Stained Glass. But even before the phenomenal success of the Korean Wave, Neil has also had a hand in directing Mexican soaps like Dos Amores, Gata Salvaje and animated series such as Streetfighter. Prior to being a dubbing – supervisor, writer and translator for TV shows, Neil already directed several plays and performed as a stage-actor himself. Such experience made him versatile enough to appear in several TV series as a character “ actor for Marina and become an acting coach and script consultant for "Sana Ikaw na Nga" among other major productions. Even if he already is a full-fledged director, Neil continues to provide the voice for several anime characters for HERO TV, TV and Radio commercials. And to give back to the society, Neil also continuously shares his talents as a teacher and facilitator for scriptwriting and voice – acting workshops including Creativoices productions "VoiceWorx" inspiring the next generation to break new grounds in the voice – acting industry. ____________________________________________________________ DANILO “Ama” MANDIA Probably as a boy born in Boac Marinduque, even Mr. Danilo Ledesma Mandia, himself could've never imagined that he would later on become an institution, a pillar of the voice “ acting industry. Although, Mr. Mandia may not want to be branded as an "institusyon"¦ all the people he has worked with would certainly agree. Coming from a diverse educational background - an Economics major in Trinity College; Agriculture Courses in the USA and UP Los Banos; it seemed that Mr. Mandia'S heart is really into the Theater Arts, which he finished as a Masters degree at UP. It was indeed in the theater where he perfected his art as an actor, stage manager, artistic director and instructor since the late 70's until the 90's. Also, for a couple of years, he served as an instructor for De La Salle College of St. Benilde, Miriam College and Trinity College. Since 1991, Mr. Mandia has been working as a dubbing director and translator for the biggest Broadcasting Network in the country, ABS-CBN and since 2005, for Hero TV Channel. He also had a hand in other TV Series such as Bananas in Pajamas, Meteor Garden, Love Scar (Fantasy Fever), ABCDEF-4, and Girls Marching On among others. His decades of experience in the arts already gave him a keen eye, or rather an "ear" for potential voice talents and actors. He has discovered some of the most talented voice actors in the industry. He might as well be labeled as a "discoverer" of talents, yet to the people he has inspired, Mr. Mandia would be best described as a dedicated professional, a good friend and a true father. ____________________________________________________________ ALFREDO “Alexx” AGCAOILI Also Known as “The Supremo .” Alexx Agcaoili is a Filipino Voice Actor and ADR Director. And also, I learned the proper way of delivering lines” - Rufino Albert Bernardo, a free lance architect “All the teachers that handled us were great. All the trainings and lectures they gave us were really enjoyable” - Anna Marie “Ann” Celeridad “I’ve learned a lot from this workshop especially the translations, audio dialogues, replacements and a lot more things when it comes to voice acting” - Jay Garcia “I joined the workshop because I wanted to learn different techniques about voice acting. And it really opened my eyes to the world of voice acting” - Katrina “Kat” Pama “I joined this workshop to further develop my God-given talent, and at the same time, share it with my co-workshoppers. I learned form my past lectures the real concept of dubbing… that it is not simply voice manipulation, but an art.” - Michael Juyad “I learned from Voiceworx the proper vocalization and that there are other ways on how to execute it… through the diaphragm, the lower register and the throat” - Olive Princess “Liv” Riego “There is no better way to hone my talents and skills in voice acting than learning from the experts whom the creativoices has in their workshop. It’s been a real enjoyable course and I’ve learned a lot especially from our three guest speakers Ama (Danny Mandia), Papa Neil (Neil Tolentino) and Supremo (Alex Agcaoili). We also felt the guidance brought by the Creativoices heads, Sir Choi and Sir Bryan whom made quite an effort to make sure Creativoices delivers what it was set out to do… And that is to equip and develop the voice artist industry” - Michael Robert “Mike” Reyes “I saw the Creativoices workshop on the internet when I searched for the word “dubbing Philippines” in Google.com. for everyone

All you have seen of Blog Watch so far have been articles written by its blogger-writers on a vast range of topics on the different candidates, as well as various interviews or fora. Not much is known about what Blog Watch is really all about – ordinary citizens, who just happen to be bloggers, using technology within our means, to bring voter education to netizens (citizens on the net). Let me take you behind the scenes and give you a flavor of what Blog Watch is all about. Tools of Our Trade Blogging is our craft. And every craftsperson worth his/her salt has certain tools of the trade which are almost like second skin to him. We don’t carry all these tools all the time but let me give you a rundown of what you would find inside our backpacks or bags if you had x-ray eyes: 1. Laptop/netbook – Brand is irrelevant (Windows or Mac, we have it!). As long as it’s WIFI-capable, we’re good! 2. DSLR/Digital Camera or Videocam – These can range from the DSLRs with large zoom lenses to the point-and-shoot ones that fit in your pocket. The memory cards we have range from as low as 2 GB to as high as your pocket can afford. 3. Camera Phones with 3G and Livestreaming Capability – It used to be that camphones were enough. Take a picture and send it via MMS. But with more advanced phones, we can now download software and actually stream anywhere and anytime using 3G signal to a channel on Ustream, Justin.tv or Qik. 4. USB stick/s – A Blog Watch blogger must always be ready for the worst – WIFI down during interview day. This actually happened when we had Kapatiran as guests. Ustream was down for over an hour, forcing us to switch over to Justin.tv until Ustream came back up. A prepared blogger, who normally has to have internet connection when telecommuting, carries at least one USB stick (no need to say which carrier – some of us who are more paranoid than the others have all three carriers’ sticks). 5. Peripherals – And then, there are the odds and ends that some of us keep permanently in our bags: tripod (to keep the camera steady), extension cords with multiple sockets (for those out-of-the-way outlets in places we use for interviews), multiport accessories (to plug in several devices into limited laptop ports), card readers, flash discs, extra batteries and yes, the chargers of all our devices.   WHEW!!!   The Livestreaming Setup   The equipment behind livestreaming and podcasting makes a whole lot of difference in terms of the quality of streaming. Blog Watch is very lucky to have as our ‘partner-in-tech’ the CreatiVoices team headed by Pocholo Gonzales.   Whenever we have a livestreaming and podcasting session, Pocholo and his band of techies painstakingly set up their equipment. These are not your usual amateur stuff, mind you. These are professional (and expensive) equipment. Their mike is able to pick up sounds from several meters away. Check this list out:   SAMSON Audio C03U Recording/Podcasting Pak USB Condenser Mic (Plug and Play) (Standard Mic) SAMSON GO Mic Portable USB Mic for Recording Panasonic PV-GS500 3CCD Video Camera Panasonic PV-GS250 3CCD Video Camera Panasonic PV-GS400 3CCD Video Camera 2 Webcams for Backups 3 Tripods 2 to 3 Laptops       Blog Watch in Action When the interview starts, we roll the webcams and livestreaming/tweeting begins. As the interview progresses, we monitor the number of viewers coming online. Our Ustream channel has a chat room where we see the viewers’ comments and questions. We also interact with those who use our Twitter hashtag #blogwatch. Noemi Lardizabal-Dado, our project editor, who is an advanced iPhone user, serves as our backup livestreamer in case the WIFI goes down completely. In many of our presidential interviews, you would catch Noemi and her white iPhone streaming all or parts of the interview or taping it via her flipcam. I have also recently learned to stream using my Nokia E71 and my Qik.com channel. While the streaming speed is not as good as Ustream’s, it has served me well during instances when livestreaming was called for.   Ambidexterity comes in handy during times like these! Picture this. While asking questions of the interviewee, we simultaneously tweet, plurk or post on Facebook. It is not uncommon to see us holding up a camera in one hand while holding a mobile phone in the other for livestreaming; or holding a videocam up with one hand while singlehandedly tweeting rapidly on a laptop with the other hand. The portability of most of our tools allow us to report live from any scene, whether it is at a press conference, a forum, or an interview. During the recent PDI Presidential Forum, for example, we were watching the presidential candidates speak while we tweeted the proceedings live. Blog Watch draws its strength from being an unusual blend of netizen-observer-writer-technology enabled. We are ordinary citizens, empowered with the right technologies, to send out real-time updates; stream raw, unedited video; and act as our own writers/editors. While we have not perfected everything and bloopers will surely happen time and again, that’s all part of our learning curve as citizen journalists. The next time you see us in action, remember – the same technology that empowers us is in your hands as well and, when used responsibly, can go a long way in ensuring that our electoral rights are not violated.   You can find Blog Watch on: Website: http://blogwatch.ph Facebook: http://facebook.com/blogwatchph Twitter: http://twitter.com/blogwatchdotph YouTube: http://youtube.com/blogwatchdotph Ustream: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/blogwatch Justin.tv: http://justin.tv/blogwatch Qik.com: http://qik.com/blogwatch Scribd: http://www.scribd.com/blogwatch

Voice Over Training Tips For Voice Actors Seeking Jobs

Voice Over Training Tips For Voice Actors Seeking Jobs

Voices over jobs are hard to find. Ask any voice over talent and they will tell you the same. This should not prevent you however from becoming a professional voice over actor. Starting a career in this industry can definitely be an exciting and satisfying experience.

Unfortunately, like any other worthwhile endeavor, getting to the point of earning money doing the thing you love can be difficult. Arriving to this level should not discourage, but rather act as a motivator as you strive to join this thrilling and rewarding profession.

Receiving proper training and professorial instruction is definitely the key to receiving your first paid voice over assignment. But there are many other things you can do in addition to the above to help prepare for your new career.

Read Magazine Advertisements Aloud. This is a simple thing you can do any time of the day. Look around you. Chances are you will not have to try very hard to find at least a dozen magazines scattered about. Read the advertising copy of the ads out loud as if you were performing the voice over in a studio. Attempt several versions with each article. Build your delivery adding intensity and urgency with each take.

Write and Perform Mock Commercials. This is an activity that is beneficial, as it will help you think like a copywriter of a commercial. Try to create a script that effectively communicates a call to action of an imaginary product. Start by writing 15 second commercials. Work your way up to 30-second spots. Once you understand this portion of the process you will become more in sync with the client and production staff. Record your commercial and critique yourself upon playback.

Listen to Radio Commercials While Driving. Take note of each and every radio ad. Study the delivery and speech patterns of the voice over actor. Pay attention to voice fluctuations and pauses of the announcer. Turn the radio off and immediately try to recreate as much of the ad as possible. Make an effort to improvise if you cannot remember the entire script. This will teach you to quickly communicate the product's message.

There are many other ways to improve your talents and voice over skills. Have fun exploring as many of them as possible. Once you become a paid voice over talent you will look back on the long road of training and instruction with satisfaction and a sense of immense pride.

Voice Over Today

Handling punctuation helps mark you as a pro.

Punctuation is really wonderful.  It, uh, punctuates.

Those little marks add meaning in so many possible ways:
  • Timing
  • Emotion
  • Sense of humor
  • Phrasing
  • Clarification
  • Making it easier for the talent to read
  • Makings it easier for the listener to hear
But many voice talent and clients overlook punctuation's potential.  So today we look at Punctuation: The unspoken hero!

FIRST, 6 REASONS WHY SOME SCRIPTS MISS THEIR MARK

(1) Not all text is written by a professional copywriter. At Edge Studio, we deal with copy from all kinds of thoughtful, highly skilled writers. But we also frequently meet businesspeople who wrote the script themselves.  Sometimes their punctuation can be abysmal.

(2) Many professional copywriters forget that someone else has to interpret what that punctuation mark means.

(3) Some clients don't read the script aloud before giving it to you. So they miss errors.

(4) Other clients read the script aloud, but do so the way they hear it, not as it appears on the page. As a result, you receive an obstacle course of confusing phrases, tongue-twisters and breathless prose.

(5) Then there are the voice artists who skip over the punctuation without much reason.  Yes, there are times to ignore it, but there are more times to use it to your advantage.  Each instance should be a professional-grade choice.

(6) Often the copy comes straight from print. A marketer might try to save money on their tradeshow video by having you read text taken directly from their brochure. As you should know, printed text is seldom written the way we talk. So the punctuation needs to be changed to some degree.

SECOND, 4 PUNCTUATION CONSIDERATIONS

(1) Skip some punctuation

Some punctuation should be skipped.  For example, you may not need to pause at the following commas:
  • "That's one tough, rugged truck!"
  • "For protection against burglary, fire, and natural disaster, trust Allstate."
  • "Sale begins February 9, 2010, at 9am!"
And phone numbers -- while they might be written:
  • 1-800-555-5555
it is usually better not to pause between the "1" and the "800."

(2) Change some punctuation

Sometimes you have to change punctuation.

As when video accompanies your voice over. Suppose you're working on a documentary about the five highest mountains. The script reads:
  • "The world's five highest mountains are Mount Everest, K2, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu."
What you don't see in that sentence (but hopefully the director will tell you) is that the video will pan on each range for about 5 seconds. So you should read each mountain's name it as if there were a period after it (rather than the comma).

If there were visuals for the Allstate example above, that list would be another example.

(3) Add some punctuation

Other times, you need to add punctuation.  Example:
  • Another reason for adding punctuation is the run-on sentence that allows no place for the listener to think and has no particular point of emphasis and offers no place for you to take a... breath.
Run-ons endanger the quality of any writing (unless you're James Joyce or Wolf Larsen).  But in print, at least the reader can go back and re-read. People usually can't re-listen. (Things like audio books excepted, and anyway it's a pain.)

I find that 3 to 5 seconds is the longest somebody can listen without a break in text. (A line of 12-point Times type on the printed page is about four seconds, so there should generally be at least one break within it.)

So give the listener's brain time to process what's coming in, by thinking about the meaning of the copy and phrasing it well.

Be careful not to overdo my advice, you risk becoming choppy. Every pause is not the same.

(4) Analyze some punctuation

How long should you pause at each punctuation mark?
  • "Guess how much Miller Ford is taking off cars this weekend? 20%!"
  • "Guess how much Miller Ford is taking off cars this weekend -- 20%!"
  • "Guess how much Miller Ford is taking off cars this weekend . . . 20%!"
Directors may hear each of these markings a different way. So practice: Teach yourself to develop reasons why and how each version would be read differently.  For example:

  • "Guess how much Miller Ford is taking off cars this weekend? 20%!"
This :30-second radio commercial is word-heavy, and subsequently the director needs it read quickly.

  • "Guess how much Miller Ford is taking off cars this weekend -- 20%!"
This radio commercial has a sound effect of a drum roll plays during the break.

  • "Guess how much Miller Ford is taking off cars this weekend . . . 20%!"
This TV commercial shows an on-camera actor holding up a sign declaring 5% off.  Then she drops it to find another sign behind it declaring 10% off.  Then again a 15% off sign.  And finally a 20% off sign.

AND NOW, WE PAUSE FOR EMPHASIS...

I can't emphasize this too strongly: It's small punctuation marks that signal the difference between an amateur and the experienced pro.

Punctuation is a matter of making good choices. Well chosen, it become more than a series of breaks. Punctuation becomes the essence of timing, emphasis, and drama.

for everyone
Im Karen Mendoza i join voice works because gusto kong maexplore kung ano pa pwde magawa ng boses ko ang favorite experince ko habang nag voice works ay yung mismong pagsalang sakin ng isa instructor sa isang mismong booth dun ko nalaman yung feeling nag nsa harap ka ng nagrerecord na talaga yung boses mo and my favorite teacher siguro si kasi nagustuhan ko yung way of teaching ni si Alex Agcaoli ayun im invitng you guys to join voice works kasi sobrang sobrang marami matututunan kayo dito hindi lang pang isang boses na pang dubbing lang marami talaga like confidence ang things like that.

Hi my name is Cristina Campaña and my reason for joining voice works is because i have some skills that i wanted to enhance like of course for acting and for since i came from theater but then this something different for me ah voice acting is a different branch for all that ive done before and its really something sort of new to me and I'm really enjoying my self especially with my experiences in voice works like with sir Alex Agcaoli like we had partial theather base workshop parang bali act kame pero walang boses uu kaya iasang tagline lang yun yung mga fun moments in my so far in my voice works experience. Ah for the teacher i  really like sir agcaoli sessions its very interactive kahit konti lang kame in that sessions more or less talagang utilize yung sessions  namin whether it be on voice or in mismong acting na uhm kahit voice works siya it doesnt mean na  sa bose lang pwde siya sa katawan yung tinura niya. Im invitng everyone to join voice works ah because it a very different experience especially to those people kahit mahiyain kayo o kahit na tingin niyo kasi somehow my konting interes kayo kahit yun lang can push you to join kasi you can build your confidence and aside from that you will meet people and its really an industry thats growing and need the teens a lot more people to be aware of.

Hi ako si Rocky Ebanio and sumali ako dito sa voice works kasi gusto kong matuto kasi nageenjoy akong maglaro laro mag dub dub dun sa mga bata sa mga chu chu ng mga bata so sumali ako dito para maghanap ng anuh baka pwede kong pagkakitaan so ganyan inenjoy ko dito yung dubbing especially yung kay class ni Sir Choi kasi anu siya parang tinuran niya kung pano gumawa ng ibat ibang boses not just yung ginagaya mu lang sa tv, and ano and then yun inanyayahan akong sumali sa voice works and then yun dito na-eenjoy mo yung pangarap mo, sa mga kasama mo, sa mga kaibigan mo nagagawa mo at nagiging talento.

So my name is Eguilberto Salazar, i joined voice works principally because i want to do, ano i want to broaden, broaden my horizons lang din at isa pa maka experience ng kung ano anong bagay, kasi mahilig ako sa mga anime, sa movies ganun so i thought this would be a good, ahh experience, ganyan. i guess ahh pinaka memorable experiences dito sa voice works eh binigyan ako ni sir, ni sir danny na makapag dub ah so ang nangyari sakin eh sinapak ako ng character ni Jerry Yan, so ayun tuwang tuwa na ako dun, sabay ganun, so favorite teacher ko i guess si sir danny tsaka si sila sir din kasi magaling silang magturo, ayun. ahh, so i would recommend this anyone who want to be interested masaya sya so punta kayo. ok na.

Hi I'm A.J. Constantino, i joined creative voices because ahh I've always been fascinated with the voice acting industry, and i want to explore this industry and i want to learn more about this industry so i enrolled in creative voices, ahh my memorable experiences here ahh pag nag nag e-exercises kami ng mga teachers very very exciting and very challenging yung mga, yung mga  pinapagawa nila samen and we get a glimpse of how it is in the voice acting industry. Favorite teacher ko si ano, si sir alex kasi makukulet yung mga exercise nya and very creative ahh, kaw rin lalabas yung creativity mo with this, with this ahm exercises and ayun masaya syang teacher, and i'm inviting you all to join creative voices, maraming matututunan, masaya, ah masasaya yung mga tao and sulit sulit naman.

Tapos yung experince ko dito sa voice works sobra saya kasi lahat talaga is about dubbing natutunan namin, from translation to dubbing, directing.

“the Little mountainous peninsula of BATAAN saved democracy and the whole world from the hands of the “Devils” while the brains of military operations were in Corregidor

(IFI) SA BAYAN NG MARIVELES, BATAAN (Aug. 6, 2000)

PANIMULANG PANGUNGUSAP:

Fr.:

Ang mga naunang pari ay pansamantala lamang kaya halos ay isa o dalawang taon ay pinalitan ang isa sa mga dahilan marahil ay sa kaliitan ng naibibigay na sueldo sa kanila (Please delete ang kaliitan ng sweldo the real reason is the five year rotation and or some other reasons.

BusinessWorld-SWS December 5-10, 2009 Pre-Election Survey: Aquino (46%), Villar (27%) and Estrada (16%) lead Presidential race; Roxas (43%) and Legarda (32%) lead VP race; Santiago, Revilla, and Jinggoy Estrada lead Senatorial race Social Weather Stations The new national scores in the Presidential race show Senator Noynoy Aquino, Senator Manny Villar, and former President Joseph Estrada ahead, according to the BusinessWorld-SWS Pre-Election Survey of December 5-10, 2009. The survey also found Senator Manuel Roxas and Senator Loren Legarda leading in the Vice-Presidential race. In the Senate race, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, Senator Ramon Revilla, Jr., and Senator Jinggoy Estrada lead the first circle of twelve that includes three candidates from the Liberal Party, two from Lakas-Kampi-CMD, two from Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, one each from the People's Reform Party, Nacionalista Party, Nationalist People's Coalition, and Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, and one independent. Aquino, Villar, and Estrada lead the Presidential race The question asked for the Presidential preferences was, "Sa mga sumusunod na pangalan sa listahang ito, sino po ang malamang ninyong iboboto bilang PRESIDENTE ng Pilipinas, kung ang eleksyon ay gaganapin ngayon?" [Among the names found in this list, who will you probably vote for as PRESIDENT of the Philippines, if elections were held today?]. The respondents were furnished with a BusinessWorld-approved list of 11 candidates to choose from, and gave their answers orally. All lists were in alphabetical order, and included nicknames, as practiced by the Commission on Elections on election day. From the list of 11 Presidential candidates, 46% chose Benigno Aquino III, 27% Manuel Villar, Jr., 16% Joseph Estrada, 5% Gilberto Teodoro, Jr., 1% Eduardo Villanueva, and 1% Richard Gordon [Chart 1]. Jamby Madrigal (0.2%), Oliver Lozano (0.1%), Mario Crespo (0.1%), John Carlos delos Reyes (0.1%), and Jesus Nicanor Perlas (0.03%) each obtained fractional numbers. Four percent could not give an answer. Roxas and Legarda lead the Vice-Presidential race For the Vice-Presidential preferences, the question asked was, "Sa mga sumusunod na pangalan sa listahang ito, sino po ang malamang ninyong iboboto bilang BISE-PRESIDENTE ng Pilipinas, kung ang eleksyon ay gaganapin ngayon?" [Among the names found in this list, who will you probably vote for as VICE-PRESIDENT of the Philippines, if elections were held today?]. The respondents were furnished with a BusinessWorld-approved list of 8 candidates to choose from, and gave their answers orally. From the list of 8 Vice-Presidential candidates, 43% chose Manuel Roxas, 32% Loren Legarda, 10% Jejomar Binay, 3% Eduardo Manzano, and 2% Bayani Fernando [Chart 2]. Jose Sonza (0.3%) and Perfecto Yasay (0.1%) each scored fractionally. None of the respondents in the 2009 survey chose Dominador Chipeco, Jr. Santiago, Revilla, and Jinggoy Estrada ahead in Senatorial race For the Senatorial preferences, the question asked was, "Kung ang eleksyon ay gaganapin ngayon, sino ang pinakamalamang ninyong iboboto bilang mga Senador ng Pilipinas? [If elections were to take place today, who will you most probably vote for as SENATORS of the Philippines? Here is a list of names of the candidates. You can mention up to 12 names.] The respondents gave their answers orally. From the BusinessWorld-approved list of 66 names shown to the respondents, Miriam Defensor Santiago (People's Reform Party) was chosen by 55%, Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr. (Lakas-Kampi-CMD) by 54%, and Jinggoy Estrada (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) by 53% [Table 1]. The next nine candidates are: 4. Pilar Juliana Cayetano (Nacionalista Party) 48%, 5. Franklin Drilon (Liberal Party) 47%, 6. Ralph Recto (Liberal Party) 44%, 7. Vicente Sotto III (Nationalist People's Coalition) 40%, 8. Juan Ponce Enrile (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) 37%, 9. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. (Kilusang Bagong Lipunan) 32%, 10. Sergio Osmeña III (Independent) 31%, 11. Teofisto Guingona III (Liberal Party) 24%, and 12. Manuel Lapid (Lakas-Kampi-CMD) 23%. Within the bounds of statistical error are 13. Jose De Venecia III (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) 21%, 14. Rozzano Rufino Biazon (Liberal Party) 20%, 15. Sonia Roco (Liberal Party) 18%, and 16. Gwendolyn Pimentel (PDP-Laban) 17%. A significant distance away are: 17-18. Jose Apolinario Lozada, Jr. (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) and Francisco Tatad (Grand Alliance for Democracy), both 16%, 19. Alexander Lacson (Liberal Party) 15%, 20. Gilbert Cesar Remulla (Nacionalista Party), 10%, 21-22. Ramon Mitra (Nacionalista Party) and Danilo Lim (Independent), both 9%, and 23. Adel Tamano (Nacionalista Party) 8%. Survey Background The Fourth Quarter of 2009 Social Weather Survey was conducted from December 5-10, 2009 using face-to-face interviews of 2,100 adults, for an error margin of ±2.2%. The national estimate was obtained by using area estimates weighted by National Statistics Office medium-population projections for 2009. The national status of the three races for President, Vice-President, and Senator are commissioned items by BusinessWorld under the BW-SWS Partnership in 2009-2010 Pre-Election Surveys, and released with exclusive first-print right to BusinessWorld. The exclusion of candidates from the lists used in the survey was the judgment call of BusinessWorld. # Chart 1 Chart 2 Table 1

Empowered and Empowering!!

According to a recent survey of youth in the Philippines, young people view poverty, crime, and government-related issues to be the most pressing challenges facing the nation. At the same time, respondents overwhelmingly answered that they feel helpless in addressing such challenges.

How do you empower young people to make a difference? How do you maximize the efforts of youth leaders who are actively promoting social change? Such questions have long motivated me on my work as a youth organizer. I see great promise for engaging the active participation of Philippine youth in helping to ameliorate a range of urgent social problems.

"With young people, ages 15 to 30, making up one-third of the Filipino population, I believe that they play an increasingly large role in the development of Philippine society,". "Their attitudes, values, mindsets and priorities and potentialities have critical role to play in shaping the future of our country. Thus with these in mind, I and   four other motivated friends created Tinig Kabataan, (Tinig is the Filipino word for Voice and Kabataan is Youth.) or the Voice of the Youth (VOTY), in 1996. Initially, VOTY founders, themselves possessing skills as young broadcasters, voice talents, and singers, focused their efforts on launching a youth radio program. For more than four years, the program aired for two hours each Sunday, giving young people the opportunity to voice their ideas and opinions on a range of issues impacting their lives. Over the years, VOTY members have been invited to present at local, national, and international conferences, and have been featured on national radio and television programs, as well as in newspapers and at school and community events. Today, VOTY has grown into a collaboration of youth organizations in nearly all 78 provinces of the Philippines. Its goal is to maximize the impact of young people working to make a difference. VOTY provides networks, tools, resources, and recognition for youth leading positive change in their communities.

VOTY Network is about encouraging Filipino Youth to believe in themselves and their ability to make a difference in our country the Philippines. They create environments where people are exposed to new thinking, a diversity of voices, and new opportunities. Driven by youthful vigor, their goal is to foster a sense of leadership, participation and social entrepreneurship through the innovative use of technology and media, creating meaningful experiences for the youth in the Philippines.

Among its efforts, VOTY is developing a peer-to-peer learning environment where youth may teach one another valuable skills. It's also working to create a national platform to enable youth voices to be heard and be acted upon.

"I believe that with young people... making up one-third of the Filipino population, they play an increasingly large role in the development of Philippine society."

A critical component of VOTY's efforts is the use of the Internet to facilitate communication and information-sharing. <a href=" http://www.voty.org">  VOTY's</a> website contains information on youth participation; a calendar of local, national, and international events; publications; and relevant links and statistics. E-mail discussion groups also enable young people to share what they know and network with one another.

I am currently pursuing a masters degree in broadcast communications in the prime institution of the <a href=" http://www.up.edu.ph">  University of the Philippines</a>, while working as Technical Assistant, Events Organizer, part of the Special Projects Team which handles the Leadership Empowerment of Youth Leaders Nationwide, and Website Developer of <a href=" http://www.yv4sr.tk">Youth Volunteers for a Strong Republic</a>  of the <a href="http://www.opaya.tk "> Office of the Presidential Assistant for Youth Affairs (OPAYA)</a>  under the Office of the President of the Philippines.

I see great promise in utilizing today's communication technologies to strengthen youth participation, networking, collaboration and leadership. "I believe that multi-media—radio, TV, newspapers, mobile phones and the Internet—offers a powerful tool to inspire, inform, and involve the youth towards empowerment,"…

YOUTH PARTICIPATIONS

The proceedings, declarations and resolutions of the Parliament guided the Commission in its undertakings and formed part of the legislative agenda of the Medium Term Youth Development Plan (MTYDP) and In 1999 I became a delegate of the MTYDP which served as a guide for government agencies to utilize in the proposal or implementation of youth-related programs.

In 2001 I was elected by my fellow youth leaders to represent our region for the <a href=" http://www.punk2001.htmlplanet.com"> 1st National Youth Summit or PAMBANSANG UGONG NG KABATAAN (PUNK)</a>  of the National Youth Commission and Department of Social Welfare and Development where we discuss and list down issues facing the present Filipino youth. The topics and problems discussed were then documented and presented to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the government to study and consider in future policy-making.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH PARTICIPATION

I participated in the <a href="www.kabataan.htmlplanet.com/custom.html" >27th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program</a> last  2000,  3rd APEC Future Leaders Forum,  I represented the Philippines during the <a href="http://youth.unesco.or.kr/iyc/images/37iyc/37iyc.htm"> 37th International Youth Camp </a> of UNESCO and 6th Arirang Youth Camp in Seoul, South Korea.

I am one of the speaker and facilitator during <a href="http://www.iyd2004.org"> 3rd International Youth Conference</a> held at the Philippine Normal University and Malacanang Palace last August 12 to 14 led by the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization-Associated Schools Project (UNESCO-ASP), and Philippine Normal University (PNU).

"Youth Leadership for Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development" was the theme of the celebration.

This year his celebration of the 5th International Youth Day will be cooperated with my organization VOICE OF THE YOUTH NETWORK.

I am the focal point of <a href="http://www.maroc2003.org">World Congress of Youth in 2003</a> where I sent Joan Villafuerte one of VOTY'S member to Morocco, together with the young people worldwide I proposed radical solutions on a range of globalisation issues.

I was also the focal point in the Philippines and with a simultaneous launched in 74 countries around the world he launched the book, <a href=" http://www.iyp.oxfam.org/campaign/youth_commission_report.asp">Highly Affected Rarely Considered</a> - the impacts of globalisation on young people at the United Nations Information Center, last July 19, 2003.

Year 2004 was very fruitful for me because I've attended numerous international youth programs.  Such as <a href=" http://www.wyps.org"> World Youth Peace Summit</a> - Bangkok, Thailand February 25 - 29, 2004, International Conference on Youth Empowerment -City University, Hong Kong   May 17 - 20, 2004 and the 2nd International Youth Parliament - Sydney, Australia July 5 –12. Upcoming events that I'm going to attend are Youth Employment Summit - Boca del Rio, Veracruz, Mexico, October 4 - 7, 2004 and World Youth Festival - Barcelona, Spain August 8-14, 2004.

Success in implementing programs for the youth hinges on our religious and civil leaders. They play a crucial part in realizing these programs and policies, with them serving as the living examples of the virtues and ideals they expect the youth of the land to have.

I believe that meaningful youth participation is about recognizing and nurturing the strengths, interests, and abilities of young people by providing them with real opportunities to become involved in decisions that affect them at individual and systemic levels. This kind of participation enhances youth health because it offers young people a chance to develop important decision-making and problem-solving skills, develop meaningful relationships, and bolster self-esteem.

Let us inspire, inform and involve the youth of the world.

Think, Grow Rich, or Die Trying: The Bruce Lee Story

Tags: , , ,
14 Comments

As a fan of Bruce Lee, you probably already know about his extensive library. Bruce’s collection reportedly spanned more than 2000 books on philosophy and martial arts. (In fact, much of the material in his “signature work”, the Tao of Jeet Kune Do—compiled and published posthumously from his notes—was copied from these primary sources.)

Bruce Lee was influenced by D.T. Suzuki, J. Krishnamurti, and many other teachers, but perhaps no author left a greater impression on him than Napoleon Hill.

Napoleon Hill
Napoleon Hill

In the early 1900s, Napoleon Hill spent twenty years studying the habits and qualities of America’s richest and most powerful men. After observing and interviewing such successes as Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford, Hill came to view their achievements as the product of a secret formula—a formula that any man could follow to great wealth.

Hill distilled this formula in his book, Think and Grow Rich:

  1. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount.
  2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire.
  3. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
  4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
  5. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
  6. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning.

For example: Suppose that you intend to accumulate $50,000 by the first of January, five years hence, that you intend to give personal services in return for the money, in the capacity of a salesman. Your written statement of your purpose should be similar to the following:

“By the first day of January, 19.., I will have in my possession $50,000, which will come to me in various amounts from time to time during the interim.

“In return for this money I will give the most efficient service of which I am capable, rendering the fullest possible quantity, and the best possible quality of service in the capacity of salesman of (describe the service or merchandise you intend to sell).

Bruce Lee, by all accounts a man of burning desire, took Napoleon Hill’s advice to heart. In his personal papers, the following note was found:

My Chief Personal Aim In Life
I, Bruce Lee, will be the highest paid Oriental superstar in the United States. In return I will give the most exciting performances and render the best of quality in the capacity of an actor. Starting in 1970, I will achieve world fame and from then onward till the end of 1980 I will have in my possession the sum of $10,000,000—then I will live the way I please and achieve inner harmony and happiness.

Bruce Lee
1969
SECRET

Lee saw no contradiction in these goals. And yet, looking backwards, his stardom and impending wealth unquestionably played a part in his mysterious demise. Fame and its accoutrements—drugs, girls, secret life insurance policies—pushed harmony and happiness out of reach.

Judging by each man’s words and actions, Napoleon Hill more clearly understood the jing-qi-shen transmutation of Chinese kungfu than Bruce Lee himself did. Ironic? I can only suggest that fans of the Law of Attraction and Intention-Manifestation Theory learn from Lee’s example, and choose their goals carefully.

There are two tragedies in life. One is not to get your heart’s desire. The other is to get it.
- George Bernard Shaw

DSCTA turns 50

The UP Diliman (UPD) Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts (DSCTA) celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a series of events that recognize and share the accomplishments of its faculty, students, and alumni. The theme is “DSCTA: Consolidating its Gains in the Present Millennium.”

Dr. Belen D. Calingacion, DSCTA chairperson, led the faculty, students, and alumni during the jubilant opening tribute to some of the founding members of the DSCTA. Among them were Professor Emeritus Alejandro J. Casambre, PhD (represented by his daughter Sr. Mary Aida Casambre), and Professors Emeriti Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio and Leticia Tison.

To date, seven lecture-fora have been held. The first three featured theatre scholars, Melecio Yamomo, Prof. Sir Anril Tiatco, and Michael Burton. Yamomo discussed the relationship between electronic media and selected Philippine epics. Tiatco discussed how ambivalence to Catholicism is performed in two Kapampangan cultural spectacles. Burton engaged the audience in a three-hour workshop on developing the voice for theatre.

Douglas Nierras and Powerdance presented a dance-lecture titled “Dance: Aesthetics and Philosophy.” His dancers demonstrated the four levels of dance. The dramatic movements are part of Nierras’s advocacy of teaching basic dance forms to public school teachers.

Dada Lorenzana-Santiago and Christine Salceda-Tica shared with the Department their insights on the topic, “The Significant Giving Self.” Lorenzana-Santiago narrated how she turned away from her celebrity-inclined profession as a TV broadcaster and marketing manager of a diamond company to become a seminar director for values formation. Salceda-Tica spoke about her experiences as one of the founders of Hillcrest Family Center along with her spouse, Pastor Reuel Tica.

A skilled performer and storyteller, Pocholo Gonzales, who is also known as the Voice Master, narrated his journey in youth advocacy as he professionalized the voice acting business in the Philippines. His lecture was titled “Creative Voices.”

The forthcoming events of the DSCTA include lectures by Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Chancellor Emeritus of De La Salle University Philippines Dr. Carmelita Quebengco on September 17, the speech conference from October 21 to 23, lectures by former junior faculty members Leloy Santos-Cuyugan and Kiko Dagohoy on November 24.

The year 2010 will pave the way for inter-university activities to be sponsored by the Speech Communication Association and the Theatre Council, both student organizations of DSCTA. The year-round event will end with a DSCTA ball in March 2010 in which alumni who have left a significant imprint in Philippine society will be recognized.

PGMA wants environment-friendly entrepreneurs
BALANGA, Bataan (PND) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo today expressed hope that entrepreneurs will put up
businesses that are environment-friendly and help mitigate the effects of climate change.
''I hope next year I will be giving awards to entrepreneurs whose kind of businesses are those that help mitigate the
effects of climate change,'' the President said at the Go Negosyo Caravan in this city known worldwide as the site of the
historic Death March.
The President visited this province today to lead the awarding of outstanding entrepreneurs.
The President said charcoal briquettes produced from garbage with the use of the technology developed by the
Department of Science and Technology should replace destructive small-scale logging practice.
She said used and discarded plastics could be recycled into construction materials such as hollow blocks.
Also, likewise, she added, water lilies, which often clog waterways, could be made into handicrafts such as slippers,
baskets and bags.
The President, assisted by Go Negosyo founder and Presidential Adviser on Entrepreneurship Jose Concepcion III and
Bataan Gov. Enrique Enriquez, led the awarding of 14 outstanding individuals who served as role models in their
respective trades and to the community.

Jingles and Radio Ads Production and Importance

ingles are meant to do: Aided by simplicity, catchiness and repetition, they insidiously attach themselves to your cerebral cortex, and nothing can dislodge them, short of having another jingle catch your attention. An advertising jingle or commercial theme is much like the introduction to a television show or for radio ads. There are lots of reasons why, demographic, social, political factors influence on our buying behaviours and jingles are one of the reason which affect the customer preferences.

We always give least importance to radio advertising but from a research it has been proved that radio ads are among the strongest medium that can sell things. When this very personal medium is used well, it informs, stimulates emotions, and engenders trust, all the things that make us buy. I know this first hand.

The style of advertising -- of much visual media, in fact -- is changing as well, with a shift from linear storytelling to collages of images. Then there's the splintering and fragmentation of audiences and the media channels to reach them with a single musical signature. Your tune should be light and lively, set in an upbeat major key. The tempo should be quick and the rhythm snappy, like a march or a cheer. I tend to remember jingles that are witty or funny.

Writing advertising jingles is a great way to make money with your music. Many times a new song will be written instead of using an existing piece for an advertising campaign. Getting involved with an advertising agency is one way to put music dollars in your pockets and get your work noticed by the public.

Some tips for effective jingle writing:

- Know the product: What are you trying to sell? A service? A product? A company? What does it do, provide or offer? Familiarize yourself with its benefits, capabilities, and distinction. What makes it superior to others of its kind?

- Drill the name: The jingle must mention and repeat the specific name of the product or company and what it does. You want to ensure that the consumer remembers the name in conjunction with the type of product. If they repeat it, they are more likely to buy it. With a good jingle, the consumer may actually begin to call all products of that type by the trade name.

- Set your slogan to a tune: There is much evidence to show that we remember tunes better than mere words. That's why a jingle is generally much easier to remember than just a slogan.

- Use assonance (repetition of vowel sounds -- 'eat cheap') and alliteration (repetition of consonant sounds -- 'Lemon-lime'): This makes your jingle fun to sing! Great Jingles should be: * Short * Easy to Understand * Recognizable * Memorable The jingles are usually composed by professionals. Since jingles are important components of the ad campaign, a lot of care is taken to ensure that only a very high quality advertising jingle is produced. Because they are so popular, and also given the wide reach of them, a lot of established musicians also lend their talents to it. As a result, it is often seen that the advertising jingles are of superior quality. This further goes on to boost the advertising efforts of the company as with a good jingle, the ad stands out, and quite obviously, it is every ad maker's desire to have an outstanding ad, quite literally so!

What is a Voice-Over?

If you or your job requires you to:

1. Communicate with other people on the same or higher business level.
2. Prepare Scripts, Write-ups or Citations for Productions

In Creative Voice Acting Workshop, you'll get:

1. Personalized, one on one voice coaching and training throughout the workshop - from real and credible Voice Acting Professionals
2. Information you need to know to become a successful voice actor and communicator.
3. Create real and believable characters from within you and learn how to bring them back when needed.
4. Training materials and assignments to keep you at pace with the workshop and rapidly develop your voice acting skills.
5. Professional Critiques to hear and identify your voice qualities and problems.
6. Knowledge on how to self-market and promote your talent, professionally.

How does it work?

The workshop lasts for about 2-3 intensive hours each session, once a week. There are 3 training modules divided into 8 sessions and categories:

Session 1: The Voice That Works
Session 2: Starting Over – What it takes to be a voice talent

Session 3: Accents, Dictions, Variety, Articulation and Movement. How to Create Voices.

NEIL ERICSON “Papa” TOLENTINO

After more than a decade of professional work in the voice-acting and dubbing industry, it would be an understatement to say that Mr. Such experience made him versatile enough to appear in several TV series as a character – actor for Marina and become an acting coach and script consultant for “Sana Ikaw na Ngaâ€, among other major productions. Even if he already is a full-fledged director, Neil continues to provide the voice for several anime characters for HERO TV, TV and Radio commercials. And to give back to the society, Neil also continuously shares his talents as a teacher and facilitator for scriptwriting and voice – acting workshops including Creativoices productions’ “Voiceworx!â€â€¦ inspiring the next generation to break new grounds in the voice – acting industry.

DANILO “Ama” MANDIA

Probably as a boy born in Boac Marinduque, even Mr. Danilo Ledesma Mandia, himself could've never imagined that he would later on become an institution, a pillar of the voice

acting industry.

Mandia'S heart is really into the Theater Arts, which he finished as a Master’s degree at UP.

It was indeed in the theater where he perfected his art as an actor, stage manager, artistic director and instructor since the late 70’s until the 90’s.

Some of the most memorable animated series he handled were Peter Pan, Dog of Flanders, Remi, Julio at Julia, Snowhite, RayEarth, BTX, Little Women 1 and 2, Zenki, Heidi, Digimon 1 and 2, Hana Yori Dango, Kim Possible, Voltes V celebrity edition, Akazukin Cha-cha. He also had a hand in other TV Series such as Bananas in Pajamas, Meteor Garden, Love Scar (Fantasy Fever), ABCDEF-4, and Girls Marching On among others.

His decades of experience in the arts already gave him a keen eye, or rather an “ear†for potential voice – talents and actors. He has discovered some of the most talented voice actors in the industry. He might as well be labeled as a “discoverer†of talents, yet to the people

he has inspired, Mr. Mandia would be best described as a dedicated professional, a good friend and a true father.

Y4iT Day 3

1:10-2:15 PM

It’s really a very good day today here at the UP Film Institute. The previous speaker was so good. Everyone was amazed of his voice acting. The speaker also made a lot of radio and TV commercials wherein he is the dubbing.

He’s working in Creative Media Corporation. He’s Pocholo Gonzales.

There was a volunteer from Lyceum who tried out voice acting and I must say—Ang galling niya!

Speaker from the University of the Philippines Manila

The next speaker was from the National Telehealth Center. The speaker said that the program they were using were not created by computer programmers, rather by doctors themselves.

I can’t believe what he is saying. Doctors in UP Manila are using the current telecommunications method we have today. They are using the internet to check upon a patient in Batanes, instead of the patient going to spend almost 30,000 pesos for an air plane ticket just to go here in Manila.

According to the speaker, their coverage areas here in the Philippines are the faraway areas like Batanes, Aurora and Capiz, where there are few doctors in their area.

Currently, they use broadband internet access, MMS, SMS (packetization), Internet-single-side band gateways and open source GSM networks.

One of the fields that I really like is Artificial Intelligence. I must say, wow, these doctors are ahead in terms of technology. They use AI to detect patterns.

In summary, IT in health will grow in leaps and bounds globally. Digitization of health data will create a demand for a new breed of IT developers (who are also familiar with the health domain). E-health and telemedicine are what our undeserved countrymen direly need. à WOW

I quote the speaker “You will find your destiny at the intersection of your greatest talent and the world’s greatest need.”

We can send suggestions to Alvin.marcelo@telehealth.ph

Creative Voices: The Hope of Voice Acting

Filipinos are well known for their talents in singing, dancing, acting, etc. This just proves that we are inclined to arts and are artists by nature. Being artists, we always have the urge to be the best and popular in the field we have chosen. When it comes to having powerful vocal chords, we have been popular in the field of voice acting since the sarzuela and radio drama era. Many actors have been popular in different musicals. Radio Dramas such as Gabi ng Lagim and Tiya Dely were big hits many years ago. We cannot deny that Filipino voice artists really are something.  However, voice acting in the Philippines is taken for granted in the market today.  Most of the talents are underpaid only getting P80 per script. Even if radio drama today is not as popular as it was before, voice talents are still the ones giving life to the radio stations. Dubbed teledramas and animé are also popular in television.  This is where Creativoices Productions comes in.

Creativoices Productions is a company that serves as a host that protects the rights of voice talents while ensuring not only the needed quality but to as much as possible exceed the client’s expectations on voice services. In line with this, the company is popular in the world of voice acting and has earned clients ranging from politics to advertising industries. Though there are a number of voice providers in the country, Creativoices is the only one that focuses on the welfare of voice artists. The company proves that voice acting is not a dying industry but in fact just as popular as the celebrities on screen today. The quality of the services that the company provides is just as high as the quality of voice acting abroad. This is the reason why Creativoices is considered as the number one provider of pre-qualified and professional voice artists in the Philippines.

Let us first define what voice acting is. Voice acting is an art. And like all other art forms it has tools and techniques which must be mastered in order for you to succeed in the level of success you want to deserve. It’s about finding the kid in you. It requires dedication and passion for doing Voice-over jobs, and lots of patience to master the skills. It means that not anyone can do voice acting for it’s a job that should be taken seriously. It also requires skills in oral-interpretation that not everyone possesses.  This art form echoes everywhere. You can hear voice-overs when you are in the mall, train stations, restaurants, in radio, in television etc. Thus, this proves that it is an essential part of the industry.

Voice Actors or Voice Artists play a very important role in sales, marketing, and delivery of information. It is the voice actor’s job to play a role that has been written into the script. To effectively play the role and thus sell the message, the performer must, among other things, be able to quickly determine who the intended audience is, what the key elements of the message are, and how to best communicate the message using nothing more than the spoken word.

Voice artists give life to commercials, radio or television, Tagalized Animés and imported dramas such as Naruto and Fated to Love You. This is very evident in the leading TV networks and radio stations. Animés, Asian and Mexican series are still dubbed and aired today. In fact, Asian TV series are always shown on primetime. Viewers patronize the Tagalog versions of these shows for they can understand it much better than watching it on pirated DVD with English subtitles. It just shows that voice talents are playing important roles in the field of entertainment and media industry. In order to be a good voice artist, one should be versatile and knowledgeable in what he or she is doing. Voice acting requires skills in interpretation thus needing the said characteristics.

In spite of these evidences, many people do not consider that Voice Talents are essential parts of the entertainment and media industry. Some also think that Voice Acting is not a prestigious job. Others look down on these artists for they think that voice talents can be found everywhere. Many do not believe that this kind of work is fun and enjoyable.

These opinions are very obvious in the way people deal with voice talents nowadays. Let us consider their pay as an example. From P300-P500, now they are only paid P80 per script causing them to find an extra job to support their everyday needs. Most of the voice talents do not share the limelight other celebrities has in radio and television. Viewers, as much as possible, will not miss a single episode of their favorite Asian series but do not bother to know whose voices are behind the characters.

These opinions and stereotypes regarding the world of voice acting are untrue. There are evidences and testimonials that can prove that these are just some of the misconceptions of those who do not have much knowledge in voice acting. Let us first discuss the belief that Voice Acting is not a prestigious job.

In Hollywood, people think highly of voice actors. They play important roles in animation, movie industry, advertising industry, etc. These artists are the source of income of many film companies in America. Celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Natalie Portman, Antonio Banderas and many others also do dubbing in highest grossing animations such as Dreamworks’ Shrek and Disney-Pixar’s Cars.

Macky McRae, a product of Creativoices workshops called Voiceworx takes pride and prestige in being a voice talent. To her it’s something unique and different, something that she can be proud of because not all people can do what they do. For artists like Macky, dubbing is a form of self-expression where she experiences fun that cannot be compared to anything.

Voice actors can be found everywhere. Voice acting is not a hard job at all. This opinion is unacceptable. Some people may think that all you have to do to be a voice actor is show up in auditions and voila! A new career for you! Let us not forget that voce-acting is an art. Therefore there is a lot of work and skill involved in this field. According to a professional voice actor you have to make sure you have a good background in acting and a good voice with very clear diction. "You have to be able to transfer [everything] through voice - you can’t use body language or anything else that works on camera”. An aspiring voice artist should have a talent or at least a good background in oral interpretation. Unlike actors on screen, voice talents do not have anyway to transfer emotions but their voice. Therefore the notion that these artists can be found everywhere is wrong.

Some others also think that voice acting is boring. In fact, just as a professional voice actor said, it is finding the kid in you. And what is more fun than being a kid again? Kathlyn Rose Tolentino, remembers the fun of her first dubbing experience. She said, “Nakikita ko na yung ginagawa nya. I said yes right away. This girl divides her time in going to school in the morning and her dubbing activities at noon. No matter how hectic her schedule is, she doesn’t mind because of the rewarding experience she gets in voice acting. Jill Fernandez, a product of Voiceworx also considers dubbing as a fun experience. The people in the voice acting industry are also really friendly and easygoing; everybody respects everybody else. It is  different from the film or TV acting business, which has a lot of politics.

For those who take this prestigious form of art for granted, they might want to have a second thought. The belief that voice acting is not an essential part of media and entertainment industry is a falsehood. Try to imagine yourself in world without voice-overs, dubbers and DJs. That would actually be a gloomy planet. Voice talents give life to different many commercials and radio stations. It is also much better to watch dubbed imported series than taking much effort in reading subtitles on the lower part of your television screens. Some may say that celebrity actors and actresses can do what a regular voice talent can do. One cannot generalize but on screen acting and voice acting are two different fields of arts.

Since voice acting is taken for granted by many people today, I would like to enumerate and put emphasis in my claims regarding this matter. These are some of the things we forgot to consider when taking a look at this field of art.

1.     Voice-Acting is a serious job

Though we cannot deny that voice acting is fun job it doesn’t mean that it is an easy job.  In order to be a great voice talent you have to undergo extensive voice training. Unless of course you are one of those few blessed people with in-born talent in voice acting. Most aspirants have to attend workshops to achieve their dream of being a voice talent. According to Debbie Cope, founder and managing director of Cope Management, you need to be educated, passionate, and determined to succeed in this field. If this is something you really want to do, know that it’s going to take a few years, maybe several years. It is also not so much about the voice quality, but about the read and the interpretation of copy, which again makes it important that a talent be versatile and knowledgeable about their craft.

Creativoices has an eight week long seminar workshop called Voiceworx that trains people who aspire to be good voice talents. Being the number one provider of voice actors, this workshop produces quality talents that are now working as professionals. Jo Carol Fernandez, Heinie Hartendorp and Pia Serrapio, now distinguished dubbers, are just some of the quality products of Voiceworx.

2.     Voice Talents should be well compensated

Voice talents should get higher pay than what they are getting nowadays. Since voice actors are not as in demand as other jobs such as Computer programmers or nursing most of them are underpaid. In my opinion, P80 per script is not the rightful amount that a talent should get. Most of these artists are contract workers and they only get paid whenever a project comes in. While they are taxed just like any other member of the labor force, they don’t have access to the usual benefits. There is no real certainty to a job. Although, voice acting is a rewarding experience for them, a number of these talents get another job to support their everyday needs. One of the reasons why voice talents are not well compensated is because TV networks prefer to spend more on promoting telenovelas than exceeding on effort on the quality of voice acting.

With all the contributions voice talents in the industry, I think that they deserve to get higher pay than P80. Now, that a lot of people are aware of voiceover and the money that can be potentially made the competition is tougher than ever. You should be great in your craft in order to be in the voice acting market. It’s competitive and there’s a lot of rejection, you have to be able to get along with people. According to an international voice actor, Voice talents in the Philppines can earn decent money if they diversify.

3.     Voice Talents should be recognized

Voice acting is not a dying industry; in fact just like celebrities flaunting their beauty in the screen, these talented people whose voices echo through the TV, radio and every other medium, should also have their share of the limelight for they are also stars on their own right. This statement is entirely true. Just because voice talents are not seen on screen it doesn’t mean that they themselves aren’t stars. They are the ones giving a Filipino taste in our favorite animes and Asian series. Still, instead of voice talents having their own limelight celebrity actors are the ones being shared by the benefits of voice acting. This is very evident in especially in Hollywood were in celebrities move in the voice-over community. Mike Myers, Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas and Cameron Diaz are just few of those actors that are now part of the voice over industry. Even here in the Philippines, animes such as Bleach hired celebrities like Marky Cielo and Yasmine Kurdi to do the dubbing.

Voiceover is a wonderful business and anytime something is this good, you’re going to find that people in general are going to want to share in the benefits. Of course, we can’t stop the celebrities or anyone from wanting to be part of the voiceover business. In this form of art you are telling stories, painting pictures with your voice, making words come alive and no one cares what you look like or how old you are. Any creative person would want to be a part of this. Since VA is as creative as other artists say, voice actors should be recognized the same way as we do to the on screen actors. Celebrities might bring with them publicity opportunities and a pre-conceived personality for the audience. Still that doesn’t mean they are really improving the quality of an animated voice track.

4. Voice Acting is not a dying industry

Major studios like Disney, Marvel, Warner Brothers and Hanna Barbera have offices in the Philippines. In fact, industry estimates say about 90 percent of American television cartoons are now produced in Asia. Of that, more and more are bringing their business to the Philippines. This is evidence that the Filipinos skills in animation and voice acting are well recognized abroad. Though there are only a handful voice talents in the country, the growing number of animations, imported Asian dramas and radio stations’ voice over show that voice acting is not a dying industry. In the last few years, animation and voice-over have become a source of great interest to folks, but for quite some time it was a field that was enjoyed and appreciated mostly by children. Since voice acting is now appreciated even by adults, this just proves that this industry is progressing in a high speed.

5.     Voice acting is an essential part of the entertainment and media industry

The number of foreign shows that are turned into Tagalog broadcasting and Anime’s that swept the screens of today is a proof that Voice Acting is then and still an imperative part of entertainment. Therefore voice artists are also big players in the industry. This statement is true. Without voice talents most of the things in the entertainment and media industry will not work.

Everything you hear in radio stations are all products of the voice talents. The words echoing in our ears are extracts of the creative juices of these artists. Without them radio stations will be a dying industry.

In the world of television, we can all agree that the Filipino dubbed versions of imported dramas and Japanese animes are still popular. The use of the Filipino language boosted the popularity of Mexican telenovelas and Japanese anime since about 80 percent of local programs are now done in the national language. Reciprocally, the telenovelas and cartoons have also elevated the Filipino language to a commanding level of popular acceptance. Every leading television network has at least three imported telenovelas and animes. These are just evidences that voice talents have great contributions in the industry.

Aside from these TV series, voice talents are also a necessity in the advertising industry. Commercials, most especially in radio stations, benefit from the talents and skills of these exceptional artists. If you are going to observe and study closely, this form of art is everywhere and is indeed a need in our everyday lives.

Voice Acting is now also becoming a part of the political world.  Thus, making it making it obvious that aside from entertainment VA is also essential to other fields.

Conclusion

Voice acting is an art. Not everyone can do this. And for those who are blessed to possess this kind of talent they will bear them the prestige and pride that is not common to everyone.

The world of voice acting may still be not that popular in our country, but we must admit that it is a growing industry. Though many voice talents are not yet recognized, time will come that these artists will have their own spotlight.

Creativoices Productions is the only one in the country that has a very evident bright outlook in this field of art. The company also protects the rights and welfare of its talents. Its workshops produce high quality artists making the Voice acting industry prestigious in many ways.

The hope that Voice Acting won’t be taken for granted by anyone anymore is at reach because of the mission and vision that the company has.
